This past year, a lot of men did not get into relationships because they felt they didn’t have what it takes to take care of a lady just yet.

Usually, the society expects men to have a house they live in by themselves and not with a flat mate. Also, they need an enviable car and then enough money to take her on trips abroad with.

It’s a lot of pressure and in some cases, maybe unfair, but here are 5 tips through which you could arrive at a better financial place:

  • Figure out your finances: For those with a low paying or part time or self employed, figure out your situation, from debt to income to investments. This way you’ll not only live within your means, you’ll also know how and where to improve.

  • Make a budget: Take note of what you’re paying in taxes and what you must spend on each month like rent and feeding. When you do that, you’ll know how much extra you spend each month and what things you can give up to save more.

  • Be debt free: Get an idea of how much you owe and how much you’re paying back. Also, figure out the amount of time it will take you to pay it all back. Without all this, you won’t have an idea of when you can begin to talk to potential Mrs. Right.

  • Save and save: Decide how much you want to save a year from now, open a savings account and separate your salary in a way that will help your savings. All you need is to put a sizeable amount into the account every two weeks and be consistent. Before you know it, you’ll be able to start a family of your own.

  • Reduce the spending: This doesn’t mean you can’t go to see movies. This means unnecessary charges and spendings. Also, aside from paying bills at the right time to avoid late fee charges, pay for the right amount of services you need like data bundle and such.

Lastly, inasmuch as your mom may be sending you daily confessions about getting married, take your time. All this won’t happen in a day; it is about growth. Be consistent and disciplined and before you know it, you’ll be talking engagement plans.
