With many wedding planning blogs and websites available at our fingertips, many brides-to-be still end up making some avoidable mistakes.

From the choice of venue, to menu and even wedding vendors, things can go wrong within a blink of an eye if not properly planned.

Here are 7 wedding planning mistakes that must be avoided at all cost:

  1. Picking a date: When choosing your wedding date, be mindful of what day you pick. Is it close to another major event? A birthday or major holiday? If so, you might come to regret having your anniversary so close to another significant date. Be sure to think it through before setting it in stone.

  2. Be mindful of your deadlines: There are certain things you need to keep in mind in terms of wedding planning timelines – get to know them. What is particularly important is giving friends and family the information they need with plenty of notice. At the end of the day, whats important is that they are present for your own wedding.

  3. Wedding venue: Book it immediately and be prepared to have a couple of backup dates. Your venue will set the tone for the event so be sure its something that both you and your fiance love.

  4. Wedding photographers: They are expensive, but they’re worth it. Your photos are among the few tangible memories of your special day and you want to capture as much of your big day as possible. Not hiring a professional photographer is probably among the most common regrets from brides and one of the wedding planning mistakes you can avoid.

  5. Don't be a bridezilla: Try and be nice to everyone. Yes, this is your big day but your fiance and bridal party are also a major part of your wedding so be nice to them and take their needs into consideration. It will be much easier to ask for help and you'll have more fun throughout the planning process.

  6. The ceremony: Be true to yourself, whether that means a traditional ceremony or something a little different. And while its great to write your own vows, for some people the only thing it causes is anxiety. As long as you are happy with the sentiment that is expressed, don’t stress too much about whether its the original or a cover.

  7. The reception: Keep in mind that the reception should be fun – if you’re stressed or stressing others out it won’t be.  The bride and groom set the tone for the party so if you’re enjoying yourself, dancing and mingling, so will everyone else.
