Engagement ring falls into ocean as man asks girlfriend to marry him

A marriage proposal is meant to be memorable but this one will be etched in the minds of this couple forever.

24-yr-old Kayla Harrity and her fiance, Matthew Picca were on holidays in Southport, North Carolina, when he decided to pop the question.

Picca got down on one knee and pulled out the ring box – only for his wife-to-be’s sparkler to fall out and then drop through the crack in the deck.

Kayla told local press: "I turned around and he was getting down on one knee. As he opened the ring box it fell out of the box and fell through the cracks on the deck and into the water."

"I didn’t get to see it before it dropped."

The incident cause quite a panic, but hope wasn’t lost as onlookers helped launch a search for the ring.

Kayla even started running to nearby restaurants to ask if anyone had goggles so she could dive for her brand new engagement ring.

She added: "After ten flashlights, and five pairs of goggles and over 1.5 hours of searching in the water…the ring was found.

"Everyone at the bar was cheering. All of a sudden, everyone was chanting “Propose again! Do it again!”

"It was the best feeling in the world. My fiancé, soaking wet, smelling like salty, fishing water, proceeded to get down on one knee and put the beautiful ring on my finger!"
