FRSC boss blames loss of 331 lives on human error

The number of accident-related deaths, and crashes in Jos zone has been revealed.

Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal and FRSC Chief Executive Officer, says there were 784 crashes, and 331 deaths between January to August, 2016.

Flagging-off the 2016 Ember Months Campaign and Sensitisation on the Speed Limiting Device, he said: ''Jos Zone is one of the areas known nationwide for its high rate of road crashes.

In 2015, we recorded 905 road crashes with 279 fatalities, but between January and August, we recorded 784 accidents and sadly, 331 persons lost their lives within the zone.

When you compare the figures, you will realize that while the number of crashes in 2015 was high, the rate of death was low, whereas the number of deaths is high in 2016 with low number of crashes.''

Represented by the Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Operations, Mr Adai Abu, he blamed the increase in accident-related deaths on human error.

Oyeyemi advised road users to reduce these fatalities by the avoiding under-aged driving, reckless and drunk driving, using quality tyres, over speeding, over loading, use of phones while driving, wrongful and dangerous overtaking.

''The rationale for the annual launch of the ember months’ campaigns is to remind ourselves of the number of salient issues and guides for safe road use,'' he added.

The FRSC marshal ended his speech by advising road users to obey ALL traffic rules.
