Motorists commend state government for enforcing use of pedestrian bridges

Residents of Lagos state are commending the Lagos state government for enforcing the use of pedestrian bridges.

In April, 2016, the Lagos state government  began the enforcement of the compulsory use of the Ojota pedestrian bridge.

At first, this was met with a lot of resistance.

People complained about the amount of time it took to cross the bridge and showed their disapproval on social media.

Now, there seems to be a change.

These Lagosians were appreciative because the bridges increased safety and reduced traffic on the highway.

Mr Achime Longe, a commercial bus driver, said:

"I like what Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) officials are doing now because before if you are coming from Sango you must experience hold up at Ijaiye and Ile-Epo bus stops because there was no enforcement.

"Sometimes we can waste up to one hour on those two spots because of some irresponsible pedestrians who preferred to dash across the highway under a foot bridge.

"This new KAI enforcement on the entire highway is a big relief to us.’’

Mr Taiwo Martins, an engineer, said: "I have seen parents crossing the highway with their children mostly around Ijaiye Bus stop.

Those children may think it was right, but with the enforcement that negative concept will be corrected."
