Motorist offers N500 bribe to FRSC marshal, gets convicted

A motorist has been arrested and convicted for offering a bribe.

Two days ago, October 28th, a motorist, Ayo Okundaye, got arrested for attempting to bribe a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Marshal with N500.

He was taken to a mobile court presided over by Magistrate, Mr Friday Igbinosa, over a three-count charge.

The charges were driving without a plate number, a forged driver’s licence and an attempt to bribe an FRSC official on duty.

Mr Okundaye pleaded guilty to all the charges, adding that the money was a gratification not a bribe.

The magistrate, Mr Igbinosa, gave his verdict, which was a fine of N35,000 for the offences.

"I, however, commend you for admitting guilt, but I must warn you to desist from the act and ensure that you always go through appropriate quarters to acquire your vehicle particulars and driver’s licence in future.’’

He also praised the marshal for refusing the bribe, whilst urging others to follow his lead.
