Erosion menace leads to increase in traffic

A lot of people have expressed concern as traffic has increased at a particular junction where serious erosion has made it impossible for two vehicles to pass at the same time.

Abia state

Abia state, Abia North senatorial district in particular, is experiencing an increase in traffic jams.

This is due to the gully erosion at a sharp bend between Lohum junction and Akoli Imenyi on the Umuahia-Ohafia Road, this road gets narrower with every rainfall.

Hon Chibuzor Solomon Okogbuo, minority Leader of Abia State House of Assembly, spoke on the severity of this while conducting journalists round the erosion site last week.

On efforts made to resolve the erosion/traffic issue, he said he had brought it up at the House for immediate intervention, adding that both the federal and state governments need to focus on rehabilitating the road due to it's huge economic importance to Abia.

On traffic control at the erosion area, the youths from the neighbouring communities have stepped in for now "to avert any possible mishap."
