Ogun State Governor says accidents during “ember” months are normal, not spiritual

The Governor of Ogun State is asking people not to believe the popular myth about “ember” months.

At the “Ember-months" safety campaign organised by the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, he spoke on the common mindset of people concerning the “ember” months.

According to him, all the crashes that occur are as a result of the increased activities on the roads around the last quarter of the year, and people who are inclined to speeding, nothing to do with spiritual forces.

Represented by his deputy, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, he went on to urge motorists to always show the highest sense of discipline, avoid violating traffic rules with acts like speeding, overloading, wrong overtaking, use of phones while driving, drunken-driving and so on.

After revealing the objective- reduction in road crashes, he said the penalty for driving against the traffic would be a psychiatric test in Aro Psychiatric, Abeokuta.

Important personalities at the campaign included the Acting Corps Commander of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Commander Seni Ogunyemi and the General Manager of the State Parks and Garages, Alhaji Ola Ayo Ogunsolu, Chairman of the Road Transport Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Owotade Monsuru, and his National Union Road Transport Worker (NURTW) counterpart, Alhaji Adetunji Odunifa.
