'Do not drive until you get your license', Lagos Sector Commander warns

Nigerian driver's licence

Mr Hyginus Omeje, Lagos Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), gave this warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

While speaking with NAN, urged applicants to wait till they were licenced before driving.

"Valid drivers’ licence is the only certificate that qualifies anyone to be called a driver all over the world.

Things must be done in the proper way; carnages on our roads must be reduced to the barest minimum as it has been revealed that most drivers do not attend driving schools.

For a fresh applicant to obtain a valid licence, he must attend an FRSC approved driving school for 26 days and spend at least one hour for training daily.

They are also required to go to a general hospital for a blood pressure check, eye test, epilepsy and tests for other internal diseases that can affect their frame of mind while driving.

This will allow him to drive for few months before the issuance of a permanent licence,’’ he said.

Driving without a valid driver’s licence is a traffic violation.

If caught, the vehicle will be impounded, payment  for removal, storage licence and evidence of payment for the licence will be required.
