According to Mr Oludare Fadogba, the Zonal commanding officer in charge of the Jos Zonal Command, these men have been deployed to ensure road safety during the Eid-el-kabir celebrations.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he called on road users to obey all traffic rules, adding that the patrol would end on September 18, 2016.
“We have deployed our personnel and materials for the 2016 Eid el-kabir special patrol in strategic routes within the various commands and units of our zone.
The special marshals and road safety clubs have also been mobilised to support our men for the special patrol.
Our road clinics and zebra points will remain open during the celebration, and our patrol vehicles, ambulances, motor bikes are to be on routes heading to every Eid praying ground to ensure free flow of traffic during the celebration.
You know, our zone is strategically located; it is in the centre of the country and motorists travelling to any part of the country must pass through it.
The volume of vehicles that ply our roads are so enormous that we need to be proactive to ensure the roads are safer for the people during this festivity.
I want to particularly call on drivers of Opel Vectra and Sharon cars to avoid reckless driving, drunk-driving, speeding, wrongful overtaking and overloading,’’ he stressed.
