Information Minster present as conference kicks off

The Minister of Communication Technology was the speaker at the first event of Social Media Week Lagos 2015.

The Social Media Week Lagos 2015 is finally here

Present at the first event of Africa’s biggest tech and new media conference was the Minister of Communication Technology of Mrs. Omobola Johnson who spearheaded the lecture which was termed, 'Citizens, Government & Technology.'

The minster was joined by Comrade Ayodele Adewale, former Chairman Amuwo Odofin Local Government area of Lagos and Mrs Yemi Keri, MD Edo State Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA).

The trio talked about how government uses technology to engage citizens and vice-versa.

In her presentation, Mrs. Omobola Johnson revealed ways which the Government uses technology to increase efficiency & accountability.

Using Twitter as a case study, the Minister revealed that technology has made it easier for citizens to engage government and demand accountability.

It was just about citizen and government interactions; Mrs. Omobola Johnson also urged everybody to embrace technology to drive business ideas.

“All SMEs should embrace technology to drive their businesses to the next level,” she said.

The former Chairman of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State also discussed ways the citizens can bridge the gap between themselves and the government with technology.

EiE Nigeria, Co-Creation Hub, BudgIT and Google through a Google Hangot presentation also showcased cutting edge tools and apps developed to aid Nigerian citizen engagement with government.

An app called Tracker.ng was unveiled to help track the activities and projects of the government.
