Nigerians have refused to return 'exploding' Galaxy Note 7's back to dealers

The Galaxy Note 7 had not been officially launched in Nigeria yet, but some users and dealers already purchased from other countries.

Samsung already shut down production of the Galaxy Note 7 line as issues with the phone overheating and exploding persisted.

According to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report, Samsung West Africa already made provisions for dealers to safely package and return the defective phones to the Korean tech giant due to the fault mentioned earlier.

The NAN report quotes Vincent Anago, a mobile phone dealer at Banex Plaza in Abuja as saying “dealers across the country have been asked to return the Galaxy Note 7 phones which they have in stock.

“We have returned the ones we have and have been refunded but we still haven’t had many of our customers return the ones we sold them.”

Another phone dealer, Uche Okoro, told NAN that quite a number of Note 7's have already been returned to Samsung, but Nigerians have failed to comply with the company's directives.

“We have been asked to return these phones because of the malfunction which is hazardous but it seems Nigerians are not worried about the situation.

“Some of us were able to get these phones and introduce them to the Nigerian market on time and despite the high cost they sold well.

“We have had a few reported incidences of the phone batteries heating up and leading to a fire and we expected that more people will be convinced of the danger the phone poses.

“We are still pleading with Nigerians to return these phones for an exchange or refund and to take advantage of the opportunity now because the phones won’t be accepted after Samsung stops requesting for them.”

Samsung has already shut down production of the Note 7 and conducted extensive recalls across the various markets it had already put the phone up for sale.

There are also rumours that Samsung could be discontinuing the Note line altogether.
