The reincarnation of a legend

Nokia 3310 has seen ten times more pre-registration interest than any of the other devices revealed in 2017.

Nokia 3310

Nokia 3310, which of course is a Nokia-branded mobile phone, was reported in February 2017 that a modernized version of it would be unveiled in the same year. The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona by HMD Global Oy, a Finnish manufacturer with rights to market phones under the Nokia brand.

In addition, it was emphasized that the Nokia 3310 will only run on 2G networks at the time of launch. And as a result of this, the phone has since been subjected to criticism.

Also, it will not be released initially in many countries; including Australia and Singapore,  which are in the process of phasing out their 2G networks.

However, despite criticisms, Nokia 3310 has seen ten times more pre-registration interest than any of the other flagship devices revealed this year.

Surprisingly, the interest in the revamped phone looks set to evoke the same tremendous success the original Nokia 3310 made some years ago.

Undoubtedly, the original Nokia 3310 was one of the biggest selling phones ever.

Here are two major reasons for Nokia 3310 cult-like status.

1. It is indestructible

The glory days of Nokia 3310 is brought to mind with a sigh, whenever the owner of a smartphone experiences a smashed screen or busted home button. The thought of your old Nokia falling from an unimaginable height and survive intact will not stop playing itself.

Indeed, the Nokia 3310's plastic cover and clicky buttons, which could be removed and replaced created a toughness that made it indestructible.

2. Battery’s life is endless

Unfortunately, the smartphones of today last a day if you're lucky. But in the good old days, the 3310 could go on for more than a week; and even longer in some circumstances. The four black bars on the right-hand side of the screen were more reassuring than the percentages of today. Also, it was easier to get a charger from anyone at any time because it was the world’s most popular phone.

In conclusion, it should be noted here that there is no Wi-fi, no 4G, no app store, no WhatsApp, and certainly no Facebook. Instead, it has text messaging and a phonebook in which you can store all your mates’ numbers. The 2.4-inch display isn't monochrome like the original 3310, but it's 240 x 320 resolution is about as far away from 1080p as you can get.

Like most Nokia feature phones, the OS of choice is Series 30+ and it's nothing more than a home screen with a basic menu attached. There’s a messaging 'app', dialler, contacts book, picture gallery and the most iconic of all the mobile games-- snake.
