Tech giant set to build data centre in South Africa
New regions where Amazon is establishing its presence include India, the UK, and Canada.
MyBroadband reports saying, "Whether Amazon will build a data center in South Africa is 'not a matter of it, it's a matter of when'".
The report reveals that the statement was made by Michael Needham, Senior Manager of solutions architecture for CIS, Russia, Middle East, and Africa at Amazon Web Services (AWS), while he was speaking at the 2016 MyBroadband Cloud & Hosting Conference.
In his speech, Needham stated that he is not a part of the Amazon infrastructure team and as such, had no insight into the company's specific expansion plans.
However, he said, the company's strategy to expand throughout the world is definite.
New regions where Amazon is establishing its presence include India, the UK, and Canada. Ohio in the United States and Ningxia Chinese autonomous region are also in line to get AWS infrastructure. Needham concluded saying he was not sure when AWS infrastructure would be available in South Africa, but stated that a data centre's arrival was imminent.
