A-Z of Google's new parent company

Google will now be called ALPHABET following a restructuring of the tech giant's business operations.

A is for Alphabet, the new parent which Google says will house all of its no-core business projects. By giving all of its many arms more independence and their own CEOs, the comany will be able to build faster and retain better talent.

B is for Boston Dynamics, the company that builds terrifyingly advanced robots, which Google acquired last year. The company makes robots that can run, jump and some that look like humans.

C is for Calico, which is Google's life extension project where it spends hundreds of million of dollars to fight neurodegeneration and cancer. One of its drugs call P7C3 has touted as a potential cure for Alzheimer's.

D is for DeepMind, the artificial intelligence startup which Google acquired last year to kickstart its AI efforts. Very little is known about DeepMind, but it could potentially help the tech giant with anything from self-driving to improving its Google Now assistant.

E is for Google Earth, which lets you explore a virtual globe that's been sticthed together from satellite imagery.

F is for Google Fiber, is a platform that brings super high speed 1-gigabit internet and cable TV to homes via fin=ber optic cable. Google Fiber may only be available in a few cities for now but its roughly 100x faster than what most people have.

G is for Google Glass, the first consumer verson of Google's eyewear computer which was an absolute disaster.However, the company is reportedly going at it again, this time aiming at a version for businesses that could let workers get instruction without looking away from their current task.

H is for Hangouts, Google's group video chat platform which can dynamically tell who is talking and give them the spotlight, with overlaid masks and effects that can keep users from feeling too self-conscious on camera.

I is for Google Ideas, a think thank that develops tools to fight online opression and things of such nature. One of its productsm the Digital Attack Map, can track and visualize the sources of DDOS attacks.

J is for Jump VR, a partnership with GoPro to build a virtual reality camera. It uses 16 GoPro Hero cameras in a circular setup to capture real life innevery direction and then stitch it into VR.

K is for Knowledge Graph, a database of semantic search information that helps Google give users actual answers to their serches rather than just links. Its powered by tens of billions of facts.

L is for Life Sciences, a division of Google X that wants to make us healthier with products like a diabetes-monitoring contact lens. The divison has also come up with a self-stabilizing spoon to help patients with tremors.

M is for Makani, a Google-acquired company that makes an energy kite that can harvest wind power. The kite is also more efficient than wind turbines because it floats up to where there is stronger wind.

N is for Nest, which is the centre of Google's connected home initiative. Right now, Nest already makes a thermostat, smoke alarm, and security camera, with Google hoping to one day connect all of our appliances to the internet.

O is of "OK, Google" voice commands, the voice prompt used to awaken Google's mobile and Chrome apps. The speech recognition technology deciphers what you say and turns it into commands.

P is for Project Loon, which is Google's Internet accessibility initiative that uses lighter-than-air balloons to beam connectivity down to people who live in remote areas. Its already planning a massive test during which it will blanket the entire Sri Lankan nation with Internet access.

Q is for QUIC Protocol, a protocol designed at Google to speed up the web. It has been  shown to reduce rebufferings of video content by up to 30%.

R is for reCaptcha, an anti-bot technology which Google bought from the Carnegie Mellon University. It protects signup forms by forcing people to prove they are human through typing in jumbled text, which in turn helps Google digitize books. A new version can detect if you're a robot from justa single click.

S is for Skybox Imaging, which is the micro-satellite startup Google acquired last year for $500 Million. The company's smaller satellites are cheaper to both build and launch than traditional ones.

T is for Titan Aerospace, the solar-powered drone startup which Google acquired last year. The drones could help Google update the photographic view of its Maps faster, or beam Internet connectivity Project Loon style.

U is for Google URL Builder, a part of Google Analytics, which is one of the leading ways to track traffic on websites.

V is for Autonomous Vehicles, another name for Google's self driving cars which are already testing in Mountain View and Austin in the United States. The vehicles use machine vision to safely react to pedestrians, signals, and other cars.

W is for Project Wing, Google's drone delivery project. The company's prototype can already drop and reel back in small packages. It could one day help deliver essential goods and medicne to rural areas or war zones.

X is for Google X, a division aimed at futuristic developments and its run by an aptly named guy called Astro Teller. What are the odds, right?

Y is for YouTube, Google's video streaming service which is already making a leap into virtual reality with the ability to watch 360-degree video. With a Google Cardboard VR headset, or any other VR headset, YouTube users can watch 360 content from any angle.

Z is for ZygoteBody, which is what Google Body was originally called before it was shut down. It rendered 3D anatomical models of the human which could be manipulated.
