Corps probes Yetunde Shukrah Idowu's killing in Ilorin

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) delegation has arrived at Ilorin, Kwara, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a serving corps member, Miss Yetunde Shukrah Idowu.

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) delegation has arrived at Ilorin, Kwara, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a serving corps member, Miss Yetunde Shukrah Idowu.

Idowu was found dead along Tanke road in the Kwara capital, with bruises and a broken skull on Sunday, the 24th of May.

The Ogun State indigene was a member of the NYSC 2014 Batch ‘B’ set until her death.

The NYSC delegate, led by the NYSC Director of Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Michael Ahile met with the state Director of State Service, the police and the Emir of Ilorin.

Ahile said the purpose of the visit was to investigate the corps member's death.

“The NYSC management received the news of the death of Miss Yetunde Idowu with a heavy heat particularly the circumstances surrounding her dead," Ahile said.

"So the Director-General of the NYSC delegated us to come down to Kwara State to discuss with the security agencies and the traditional institution here to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of this corps member.

“The NYSC places importance on the welfare of corps members and when things like this happen particularly when they bother on death, the NYSC does not take it lying down and that is why we are here in Ilorin, Kwara State capital to see all the security agencies and the traditional institution that they would use their good offices to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of these corps member."

Ahile noted that members of the corps are on "national assignment” and "it is the responsibility of all of us to protect them particularly the security agencies and the traditional institutional and the host communities."

“And so we want to condemn in very strong terms the death of this corps member and we call on the security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death and the people behind this death, the NYSC will not tolerate mindless killings of corps member on national assignment and we call on all the security agencies and the traditional institution in this state to do everything possible to find out who killed this corps member”.

Mogaji Are, Alhaji Aremu Zubair, who received the delegation on behalf of the Emir, promised that the Emir would act on the issue.
