Disturbing photos of abandoned school puts Gov Wada under pressure
Governor Idris Wada of Kogi has once again come under fire over the falling standards of education in the state.
An alleged citizen of Kogi, identified as Idris Odoma in several media reports, posted photos of the Government Secondary School, Odu-Ogboyaga, which has gone to rot following years of government neglect.
"The photos attached are not abandoned buildings but the current but pitiable state of Government Secondary School,Odu-Ogboyaga," Odoma said.
"The only Secondary School in my Governor's village.
He claimed that the public school is in such a terrible state despite being only a short distance from Wada's home.
"The truth is that, the school is just about 500 meters away from Mr Wada's private residence," he added.
gathered that Wada has in the past been criticized over the state of education in the state.
In a 2014 open letter published in YNaija,, condemned the governor's approach to education.
"What I find hard to stomach and accept as destiny, is why your administration has chosen to throw education to the gutters," Huseini wrote.
"As a result of your administration’s attitude towards education, Kogi now ranks as one of the top investment destination for private school operators with ill-equipped private schools springing up in every nook and cranny of the state."
It will be recalled that Kogi is one of the 19 states in the country which the Head of National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC, Charles Eguridu, said may not get results of the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination due to unpaid registration fees.
But in a recent opinion article published in , one Danladi Danjuma called Wada "a Messiah and the best thing to have happened to Kogi since the creation of the state", adding that he oversaw a "150 per cent increase in internally generated revenue from N200 Million monthly in 2012 to N550 Million currently."
Wada, an accomplished pilot, became Governor of Kogi State in 2011 on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
He is seeking a second term in office.
