Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, on Wednesday pledged to provide adequate funding for the training of personnel to handle health facilities in rural areas of the state.

The governor gave the assurance when he paid an unscheduled visit to College of Health Technology, Jega.

He said that the government was aware of the need to engage more health personnel to tackle emerging health challenges and urged students of the college to commit themselves to their studies in order to excel.

“We want you to dedicate your time to your studies as challenges are awaiting your graduation; we have been battling with the sudden emerging diseases that sometimes kill children.

“We expect you to read hard so that you can help promote our health sector and manage our rural healthcare centres and dispensaries in all the 21 local government areas of the state,” Bagudu said.

Also, the Principal of the college, Aminu Muhammad, appealed to the state government to  construct a new administrative block and rehabilitate students’ hostels in the school.

“We are also calling on the government to equip our library with modern learning materials and equipment.”

One of the students, Zainab Yusuf, commended the governor for the visit and urged him to facilitate the provision of teaching aids, scholarship to students and additional structures in the school.
