The Federal Inland Revenue service placed adverts to hire 500 people in various newspapers. The recruitment exercise was to increase human resources for more ease of tax revenue collection, hence expanding the country’s revenue base.

The tax office received 700,000 applications. Of that gigantic figure, 2,000 of them were First-Class graduates.

Mr Tunde Fowler made this known when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition. Apparently, some applicants felt dissatisfied with the process and filed a petition to the House.

It will be remembered that the Nigerian Immigrations conducted a recruitment exercise that had up to 700,000 people apply across the country. Up to sixteen people died at stampedes across the country, many more were injured. It will also be remembered that each applicant from the 2014 immigration exercise was made to pay a sum of N1000 as a fee for the exercise.

“We have secured waiver and endorsement from the Federal Character Commission in order to ensure that the right thing is done,’ Mr Fowler said.
