Obafemi Awolowo Universiy tuition fees now range between N19,700 and N30,700 for returning and new students

According to the new regime announced on Thursday in a release signed by the institution's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju the tuition fees now range between N19,700 and N30,700.

The PRO said the magnanimity Professor Bamitale Omole-led management led to the slash in tuition fees.

"In a rare show of administrative magnanimity in university management, Professor Bamitale Omole has, again, proved that he runs an open and compassionate administration by graciously reducing the charges payable by the students of the OAU, Ile-Ife,” Olanrewaju said.

In the breakdown, returning undergraduates in Law, Arts, Social Sciences, Administration and Education (Arts) will pay N19, 700 while  "those in Science, Administration, Education (Science), Technology and Agriculture will now pay N27,700, while students in Medicine, Dentistry, Medical Rehabilitation, Nursing and Pharmacy will now pay N30,700.”

Olanrewaju added that the reduction is sequel to the appeals from various stakeholders ... within and outside the university.”

Students were urged to exhibit discipline and remain committed to their academic programmes.

It would be recalled that the date for the reopening of OAU, Sunday August 24th 2014, was only recently  announced after the institution was shut down on Wednesday 18th June 2014  after a wave of student proetsts.
