YABATECH wins Bida 2014 with 17 gold medals

Yaba College of Technology won the 18th edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) with a 34 medal haul even as about 13 institutions failed to win a single medal.

The Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, has won the 18th edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) with 34 medals.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), YABATECH won 17 gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals to emerge overall winners of the games which was tagged BIDA 2014, after its host, the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

Coming close in second was The Polytechnic Ibadan which secured 14 gold, five silver and 11 bronze medals.

The second runners up, Abia State Polytechnic Aba won 11 gold, four silver and seven bronze medals.

18-year-old YABETECH Accounting Student Precious Okoronkwo, was the tournament's best athlete having won three gold medals in Long Jump, High Jump and triple Jump as well as a bronze in Javelin.

Student Pulse gathered that only 29 of the 42 participating polytechnics won at least 1 medal.

At least 13 institutions failed to triumph in any of the contested categories.

The 17th edition of the competition was hosted by the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun state in 2012.
