Eugenie Bouchard revealed she played with a torn abdominal muscle in her first-round Wimbledon loss on Tuesday.

The Canadian's poor year continued with a 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 loss to China's Duan Ying-Ying at the All England Club.

It marked Bouchard's 12th loss in her past 14 matches, extending a 2015 that has gone downhill since her appearance in the Australian Open quarter-finals.

"After Eastbourne, we did testing and I have a grade-two tear in my abs," the 21-year-old said.

"It probably wouldn't have been smart to play here but I couldn't pass on Wimbledon so I did very minimal preparation to save myself for the match."

Bouchard felt her timing was "very off" as 23 unforced errors proved particularly costly against Duan.

She is looking forward to moving on from her difficult first half of the year.

"I'm going to be happy to put this period behind me. I'm very disappointed with my last couple of months," Bouchard said.

"It has been a stressful time and these big tournaments that everyone was talking about.

"I'm looking forward to not having people ask me about the points I have to defend so that'll be nice."
