Japan's Yuichi Sugita booked his place in the Claro Open second round as rain interrupted the tournament on Monday.

The world number 152 beat local hope Nicolas Barrientos 3-6 6-3 6-4 in one hour, 56 minutes on the hard courts in Bogota.

Sugita served 10 aces and converted two of eight break points on his way to victory.

But the weather interfered as Radek Stepanek and Edouard Roger-Vasselin were unable to finish.

Czech wildcard Stepanek took the second set 6-3 after the Frenchman had taken the first 6-3, and they will finish on Tuesday.

Ivo Karlovic and Bernard Tomic are the top two seeds at the event, with the Australian having beaten the Croatian in last year's final.
