A year on from his last ATP Tour success, Tomas Berdych tasted glory again as he overcame Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in Monday's Shenzhen Open final.

Heavy rain on Sunday had delayed the showpiece, and more inclement weather continued to frustrate players and spectators alike on Monday.

When the action did get under way, Berdych closed out a straight-sets victory over the Spaniard, prevailing 6-3 7-6 (9-7) to win his 11th ATP title, and a first since the Stockholm Open in October 2014.

Garcia-Lopez, who had won each of his previous three Tour finals, threatened a comeback in the early stages of the second set but Berdych recovered his composure to see out the win.

A break in game four of the first set helped Berdych get his nose in front, but world number 26 Garcia-Lopez found some form at the start of the next.

The fourth seed raced into a 3-0 lead as Berdych looked in danger of dropping a set for the first time in the tournament, but the world number five showed his class to pull level.

The remainder of the set proceeded on serve until, after saving a set point with an overhead smash in the tie-breaker, the Czech thumped a cross-court forehand return that Garcia-Lopez could only send low into the net as Berdych celebrated bringing an end to his year-long barren run.
