After missing out on the last two occasions, Roland Fischnaller ended his wait for FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships gold.
Roland Fischnaller won FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships gold at the third time of asking with victory in the snowboard parallel slalom on Thursday.
The Austrian claimed the title on home snow by beating Russia's Andrey Sobolev in the Big Final in Kreischberg.
Rok Marguc overcame Aaron March of Italy in the Small Final to take bronze for Slovenia.
But the plaudits go to Fischnaller, whose success comes after he had won a bronze and a silver in the parallel giant slalom in 2011 and 2013, when he also was left to settle for third in the slalom.
"I worked very hard and long for this title," Fischnaller said. "It didn't look good in the beginning of the season when I suffered a laceration of the tendon in my right thigh. I'm still racing in pain but I have a good feeling on the boards.
"So I just went for it; although the course wasn't set for me. I had to go to my limits to win. I'm very proud that I made it."
