An unspecified lower-body injury will prevent Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby from playing in the 2015 NHL All-Star game.

Penguins executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford made the announcement on Thursday.

Since Crosby will be missing the All-Star game, he will not be allowed to play in the Penguins' game against the Winnipeg Jets on January 27.

Crosby has played in only one All-Star game in his career, in 2007, and this is the fourth time he has been selected but been unable to play because of injury.

Earlier on Thursday, Crosby's Penguins teammate Evgeni Malkin dropped out of Sunday's game in Columbus with an injury.
