Oscar Pistorius Jailed athlete secretly released to attend memorial service of grand mum

Jailed athlete Oscar Pistorius was secretly released from Kogis Mampuru jail to attend the memorial service of his grand mum.

Pistorius is serving a six-year jail sentence for the 2013 murder of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius, who claimed he thought Ms Steenkamp was an intruder when he shot her dead at his home in 2013 was allowed to go to a boutique hotel where the memorial service of his grandmother.

According to the management of the Kgosi Mampuru, the 29-year-old was freed for four hours on Friday, October 14 under armed guard.

Pistorius was allowed to attend the memorial service because he was 'devastated' on hearing of the death of the 93-year-old he called 'oumi’.

He applied for permission to attend the memorial service which held a quiet hotel just a few miles from the jail he was serving his sentence.

Before the death of his grandmother, the former Olympian was in regular touch with her via limited phone calls.

Manelisi Wolela of Kogis Mampuru said that Pistorius’ application was approved because of his 'good conduct and behaviour'.

He was guarded by a top team of armed prison guards to the Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel where the memorial service held.
