The Washington Capitals head into the NHL season in winning form after a 6-2 thrashing of the New York Islanders.
Alex Ovechkin scored twice, but John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov starred with a goal and three assists each in the final game of the pre-season on Sunday.
Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby went through a full game, making 22 saves from the 24 shots he faced.
With their season opening at home to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, Holtby said it was a nice way to go into the game.
"We stuck to a pretty good game plan, even getting off to an early three-goal lead where it can be tough to play like that, especially in the pre-season when you"re ready to get it over with," he said.
"To focus on making sure we"re accomplishing something in the rest of the game is big, and I thought we did that.
"We played well. I thought it was a good game for us to have mentally going into the season."
The Capitals scored three times in the opening eight minutes to set up their win and they were never troubled by the Islanders, who face the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.
