The Montreal Canadiens made it seven wins from seven after a 3-0 home shutout of the St Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Carey Price made a season-high 38 saves to secure a second shout out in three games, helping the NHL-leading Canadiens extend their best start in history.

Goals in each period from Max Pacioretty, Alexander Semin and Torrey Mitchell helped the Canadiens remain perfect on 14 points atop the Atlantic conference.

The Nashville Predators came behind on three occasions to secure a 5-4 shoot-out win over Tampa Bay Lightning.

Mike Fisher put Nashville ahead at the end of the first period but the home side had to equalise three times, before Filip Forsberg scored the shoot-out goal to give the Predators their fifth win of the season.

Adam Larsson scored his first goal of the season 43 seconds into overtime to give the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes.

The Pittsburgh Penguins also had to rely on an overtime goal, with Evgeni Malkin scoring 1:21 into the additional period to defeat the Florida Panthers 3-2.

Elsewhere, the Columbus Blue Jackets continued their winless start to the season after being blanked 4-0 by the New York Islanders, while the Dallas Stars edged the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1.

The Washington Capitals, meanwhile, accounted for the Calgary Flames 6-2 as Alex Ovechkin tallied his 900th point.
