The Boston Red Sox pulled level atop the American League (AL) East in MLB, while the Los Angeles Dodgers exploded offensively.

David Price gave up just two hits in eight innings as the Red Sox claimed a 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, to join the Toronto Blue Jays with a 70-54 record.

The Dodgers and Adrian Gonzalez bashed their way to an 18-9 victory against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Baltimore Orioles got past the Washington Nationals 4-3 and the Houston Astros were 3-1 winners over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a walk-off homer as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Atlanta Braves 9-8

The Cleveland Indians edged the Oakland Athletics 1-0 and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies 4-2.

The Seattle Mariners claimed a 7-5 win over the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs were too good for the San Diego Padres 5-1.

GONZALEZ GOES DEEP THREE TIMES

Gonzalez hit three of the Dodgers' seven home runs and drove in a career-high eight runs. Los Angeles now hold a one-game lead over the idle San Francisco Giants in the National League (NL) West standings.

BENINTENDI ROBS RAYS

Red Sox rookie Andrew Benintendi made an unbelievable catch that took part of his body over the wall to rob a home run in the bottom of the eighth against Tampa Bay.

SANCHEZ STILL ON FORM

Yankees young slugger Gary Sanchez hit his eighth homer since August 10 - the most in MLB in that span. Sanchez has now hit more homers than any Yankee in his first 19 career games.

RED-HOT ROYALS VISIT MARLINS

Looking for their ninth consecutive win, the Royals send Yordano Ventura (8-9, 4.46 ERA) to the mound looking to stay hot on Tuesday. Ventura has not allowed more than three runs in an outing since July 3 but has never faced the heart of the Marlins line-up. Andrew Cashner (4-9, 4.92 ERA) toes the rubber for Miami.
