The Qatar Masters remains wide open after Marc Warren and Emiliano Grillo joined Branden Grace and Bernd Wiesberger in a four-way tie for the lead on day three.

Grace and Wiesberger - who both birdied the last - had been level with George Coetzee heading into Friday, but the latter now forms part of a group of three players who are two shots off the lead.

Warren and Grillo both produced five-under rounds to claim their share of the lead, but it was Grace's great escape on the fifth that proved the highlight of the day.

The South African found himself among the trees with no obvious escape before he wedged to five feet to hole an unlikely birdie.

"I actually didn't hit that bad a tee shot," he said. "I thought I was just in the rough on the right and must have had a big bounce to the right. Where it finished, I thought, this is going to take some magic.

"I could only hit a big, snapping hook with a wedge and when I hit it, I couldn't see the ball. We heard the claps and next thing you know, managed to make a nice little five-footer for birdie - that definitely got it kick-started.

"It was nice to bounce back the way I did and nice to finish off the round with a good birdie on 18.

"I'm pretty happy with the round and after 18, I'm still in the position where I want to be.

"I'm not going to say that it's given; I still have to get up and still have to do the same things, and you still have to play good golf. These guys are good and we all play to win and we are all there for a reason, I'm just going to try to do the same [on Saturday] and hopefully can be one better."

Eddie Pepperell - tied with Coetzee on 11 under, along with Alejandro Canizares - hit the round of the day, completing the Doha course in 65.
