Hawkes Bay overcame Wellington 36-14 on Wednesday to hold on to the Ranfurly Shield.
The hosts were in control throughout the majority of the ITM Cup contest at McLean Park, and ended up winning convincingly.
Wellington, who began the match well, struggled to cope with Hawke's Bay after Vaea Fifita was sin-binned late in the first half.
Hawke's Bay racked up three tries during the Tongan loose forward's time on the sidelines to take the game away from Wellington.
The home team ran in five tries, with the impressive Ryan Tongia notching another double. Gareth Evans, Brendon O'Connor and Tony Lamborn also scored for Hawke's Bay.
Matt Proctor replied with Wellington's only try.
Hawke's Bay now face a top-of-the-table clash with Manawatu on Sunday, while Wellington play Taranaki next.
