Auckland ran in nine tries to hammer Waikato 60-19 in the ITM Cup at Eden Park on Thursday.
The hosts put in a superb display from start to finish to move within five points of Canterbury, who sit third in the table.
Auckland had never previously broken the 50-point barrier against Waikato, but showed no mercy on Thursday.
George Moala led the way for the home side with two tries, with Junior Poluleuligaga, Lolagi Visinia, Gafa Su'a, Joe Edwards, Gareth Anscombe, Jack Whetton and Blake Gibson also crossing.
Anscombe and Simon Hickey also did some damage with the boot, kicking four and two conversions respectively.
On a night to forget for Waikato, Loni Uhila, Anton Lienert-Brown and Hame Faiva scored tries, with Damien McKenzie kicking a pair of conversions.
