Gael Monfils and Roberto Bautista Agut had no trouble at the Croatia Open as Martin Klizan exited.

Monfils only needed 52 minutes to reach the quarter-finals in Umag, crushing Austrian qualifier Bastian Trinker 6-3 6-0 on the clay courts.

The French top seed put in 81 per cent of first serves and sent down seven aces, with Trinker able to win just eight return points.

Monfils is likely to find it far tougher in the last eight, when a meeting with Philipp Kohlschreiber awaits.

German Kohlschreiber outclassed Italian Paolo Lorenzi on his way to a 6-2 7-5 victory.

Bautista Agut, the Spanish second seed, was also untroubled as he thrashed Slovenian Blaz Kavcic 6-1 6-2.

He set up a mouth-watering quarter-final against local hope Borna Coric, the Croatian teenager who beat Aljaz Bedene 6-4 6-4.

The other last-eight clash set up on Thursday was an all-Austrian one as Dominic Thiem and Andreas Haider-Maurer advanced.

Thiem was leading Dusan Lajovic 6-1 3-1 when the Serbian retired, while Haider-Maurer upset Slovakian eighth seed Martin Klizan 6-4 6-4.
