This was disclosed by the president's Personal Assistant on Digital/Online Media, Lauretta Onochie, as the president met with the team at the Executive Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

The team presented the championship trophy they won at the 2017 FIBA Women's Afrobasket tournament in Mali to the president.

On Sunday, August 27, they defeated defending champions, Senegal, 65-48 to win the tournament for the third time, after winning it in 2003 and 2005.

The team's officials were also rewarded with N500,000 each by the president.
