A caddie has died after collapsing on the 13th fairway during the first round of the Dubai Ladies Masters.

The caddie was attended to by on-site medics, but later died in hospital.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident has forced the event’s organisers to suspend play.

Ivan Khodabakhsh, Ladies European Tour CEO, said: “We are extremely shocked and saddened by this and have suspended play as a mark of respect.’’

The first round will be completed on Thursday and the event will be reduced to 54 holes.

A total of 54 players, including Laura Davies, had yet to begin their rounds when play was called off.

None of the players taking part in the competition had completed more than 10 holes.
