Shorunmu wants Rohr to focus on new talents rather than recall Enyeama to the national team.
Enyeama resigned from the Super Eagles in October 2015 following a clash with then coach, Sunday Oliseh.
New Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr revealed that he has spoken to the goalkeeper on a return to the Super Eagles but Shorunmu is not in support of it.
The former Super Eagles goalkeeper coach wants Rohr to focus on new talents rather than recall Enyeama to the national team.
“There have been several calls for him (Enyeama) to return to the team, but he has insisted and his decision should be respected even if the manner at which he exited the international scene was not a good one,” Shorunmu said in an interview with Complete Sports.
“He should be left alone! The same thing happening now occurred to me when I retired from international football.
“There were calls from every quarter that I should return but I stood my ground, to allow other goalkeepers grow into the team.
“Maybe that’s what Enyeama feels as well. The likes of Carl Ikeme, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa must be given a chance.”
Shorunmu quit the Super Eagles in 2002 leaving Enyeama as the first choice goalkeeper.
