Florentino Perez offered a new contract to Sergio Ramos out of fear that the fans might turn against him
Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos was offered a new contract by club president Florentino Perez who feared he will be kicked out of the club if he sold the defender.
Ramos was reportedly keen on a move to Manchester United as he was feeling undervalued at the club.
The defender was unhappy with the club for not offering him a new contract like his teammates, Karim Benzema, Marcelo and Luka Modric.
In a sudden turn of event, the club have informed Ramos that he will not be allowed to leave instead offering him a contract worth €9m a year.
Dail Mail reports that Perez offered Ramos the new contract so as not to incur the wrath of Real Madrid fans.
Perez has become an unpopular figure to the fans after the acrimonious exit of former captain and goalkeeper Iker Casilas.
Perez has now chosen not sell Ramos as he fears he will face the wrath of the fans and be asked to resign if he sels the new captain.
Ramos was offered the new contract in a heated meeting at the Ritz-Cartlon hotel in Guangzhou, China, last weekend/.
There, Perez told Ramos he would not let him leave unless his €180m buy-out clause was met.
Real have offered the player a deal until 2020 worth around €9m a season but the defender to agree and is instead holding out to for €10m.
