Cameroon football legend Rigobert Song has been flown to France for further treatment after suffering a stroke.

Song who had 137 caps for Cameroon was rushed to the hospital on Sunday, October 2 after he fell ill in his country home.

He took seriously ill after he suffered a brain aneurysm and has been in critical condition.

The Director of Yaounde I Central Hospital Louis Joss A Mafock has revealed that the former Liverpool defender will be flown to France for further treatment.

 

Lots of ‘get well soon’ messages have flooded social media as former colleagues and the football world in general has reacted to the news of his illness.

 

 “I wish you a lot of courage and a speedy recovery big brother,” wrote legendary Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o wrote on Twitter.

Our thoughts are with Rigobert Song and his family at this time,” the Liverpool official Twitter handle wrote.

“Hope everything ends up okay,” former teammate Jamie Carragher wrote while Robbie Fowler added: “Thoughts with Rigobert Song and family... hope he pulls through.”

 

After retiring from football, Rigobert Song  became a pundit for TV channel Orange Sports.

He was a member of the Cameroon national team between 1993 and 2010 and also played for Europeans clubs like Liverpool, West Ham, Lens and Galatasaray.
