Wife of Real Madrid coach, Rafa Benitez jokes that they are 'cleaning up Jose Mourinho's mess'
Wife of new coach of Real Madrid Rafa Benitez has joked that her husband has come to the club to clean up Jose Mourinho's mess just like he has also done in previous club.
Benitez has coached two clubs-Inter Milan and Chelsea- after Mourinho's departure and was also newly appointed as manager of Real Madrid just a year after his rival left for a return to Chelsea.
While speaking to La Region, Benitez's wife, Montserrat Seara, said that it's just fate that Benitez's managerial path crosses with Mourinho.
"We tidy up his messes," she joked before adding "If you think about it, of course you end up crossing paths. There are only a few world-class clubs out there."
Seara went on to explain Benitez's passion for the game even revealing that she and the Spanish coach discussed football during their first date.
"On our first date, Rafa explained to me what a 4-4-2 was. He finds it hard to stay away from the game," she said.
"The year we spent at home he helped coach the local school team. It was hilarious. He stood on the sidelines and shouted at them as if they were first division players, waving his arms about. He doesn't see football as work, it's his passion.
"It was hard to see each other over the winter in Napoli. There were no direct flights and it was complicated. Things will be much easier now in Madrid."
Benitez has overseen three victories with Real Madrid in the pre-season and will be expected to win trophies at his first season in the Bernabeu.
