Remo Stars' disastrous campaign has finally led them to relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football League following a 3-1 home loss to Rivers United in Matchday 34 on Sunday, August 13.

Remo Stars needed a win to keep their faint hopes of survival alive but Rivers United got an impressive away win in Sagamu.

Three goals by Bernard Ovoke, Emeka Ogbugh and Esosa Igbinoba sent Remo Stars to the lower Nigeria National League (NNL) with four games remaining in the 2017 season.

Ovoke opened scoring for the away side with a lovely free kick in the 15th minute before Ogbugh doubled the lead for the Stanley Eguma side 20 minutes later

Igbinoba pounced on a rebound to seal the win before Salefu Oche got a consolatory goal for Remo Stars in the 88th minute.

The away win for Rivers United lifted them to 14th on the table.

Remo with just 29 points have been mathematically confirmed for relegation just a season after they got promotion.
