Thousands of fans were at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Tuesday, October 26 to give African Champions Mamelodi Sundowns a heroes’ welcome.

Sundowns lifted the CAF Champions League title on Sunday, October 23 after coming off with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline against Zamalek of Egypt.

After a 3-0 first leg win, Sundowns only conceded one goal at Alexandria on Sunday to win the trophy.

The players have each been given the sum of $1,450 as a result.

"Sundowns didn't only represent themselves but our nation,"  Minister of Sport and Recreation, South Africa Fikile Mbalula tweeted.

"20,000 rands ($1,450) to a player to show our appreciation is little but a sign of gratitude."

This CAF Champions League victory makes them the only second South African side to win the continental tournament after Orlando Pirates won in 1995.
