Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed that fans of rival clubs who throw abusive chants and words at him would love to have him in their teams.

The Chelsea fans favourite has been a constant target of boos from rival fans especially during away games.

The revelations about his romantic relationship with the partner of one of his one -time teammates (Wayne Bridge) and the racism row involving him and Anton Ferdinand have made him a villain to fans.

Terry has however hit back at the fans who have gave him a tough time, saying that they would have loved him if he was in their team.

"You hope that when you hang up your boots, obviously, you don't want to be hated," Terry said.

"You just want to be known as a very good footballer and someone who gave their all for their club.

play John Terry was found guilty of racist behaviour against Anton Ferdinand in 2011, the Chelsea defender never apologized and has been labelled stupid by the latter's oldr brother, Rio Ferdinand (PA)

"I'm sure that if I was in their team, they (the opposing fans) would love me in their team because I'm one of those players who gives everything to the cause.

"Regardless of what people think or say, you can't take away what I've done in the game. As a person and player, that's for anyone who's met me.

"Anyone who's not met me shouldn't be judging me or the character or person I am but as I say, footballing wise they've had opportunities to see me play and if you're a football person you can make a judgement on whether I'm a good player or not."
