The team's players swept the individual awards despite losing the title to Lobi Stars of Makurdi on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the invitational tournament was held at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, Ogun.
The club’s Media Officer, Olawale Quadri, said in a statement on Monday in Lagos that though MFM lost the title to Lobi Stars of Makurdi, its players swept the individual awards on Sunday.
“The teams’ winger, Olatunbosun and Onuwa swept the players’ individual awards in different categories after their impressive performances at the just-concluded event.
“Olatunbosun, who played a vital role for his team, created two assists after scoring three out of 11 goals scored by Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side and that performance won him the tournament’s top scorer award.
“The left winger beat off competition from Remo Stars’ Ekene Awazie whose three goals could not help his side to the final of the competition.
“Onuwa’s superb form in the middle of the park for Ilechukwu’s side played a major part for his team’s fine run in the 10-team pre-season event,’’ the statement said.
It added that the petite midfielder was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition ahead of Lobi Stars attacking midfielder, Sunday Akleche.
The Olukoya Boys lifted the silver trophy of the 10-day soccer fiesta and were rewarded with N100,000 cash for emerging the tournament’s runners-up,’’ the statement said.
