The German national team on Monday, November 14 visited the leader of the Catholic Church at the Vatican.

Ahead of their friendly against Italy on Tuesday, November 15, the German national team visited Pope Francis who is an Argentine.

Germany beat Argentina to lift the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil but the Pope had no animosity about that loss and received the German jersey.

The jersey was presented by German FA president Reinhard Grindel.

We became world champions beating the Argentine national team, which is something that might have upset you, so symbolically, this jersey also unites us and yourself for this matter,” Grindel said at the Apostolic Palace on Monday, November 14.

Pope Francis is a huge fan of football and a lifelong supporter of Buenos Aires club San Lorenzo.
