Federation Cup FC IfeanyiUbah beat Nasarawa United to lift title

FC IfeanyiUbah on Sunday, November 6 defeated Nasarawa United to lift the 2016 Federation Cup.

The two Nigeria Professional Football League side (NPFL) clashed at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos under the watchful eyes of Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr.

FC Ifeanyiubah were on the front foot as the match kicked off and got an early chance through through Brazilian forward Alberico who fired his effort over.

 

Nasarawa United got the chance to take the lead twice but Ifeanyiubah's Jimoh Oni intercepted a through ball to spoil the first chance while Tayo Fabiyi fired his effort over.

Nasarawa United blew another glorious chance to take the lead in the 12th minute only for Bashir to go for goal with his teammate Fabiyi in a better position.

The game wore on without any clear chances before FC Ifeanyiubah captain Wilson Elu curled a 25-yard free kick towards goal which was saved by Nasarawa United goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso.

Nasawara also had another chance to take the lead just before the end of first half but Bashir blew it again.

FC Ifeanyiubah got their chance to take the lead after a poor clearance from but with their forwards hesitant to get the ball, it was cleared by the opposition.

Both teams could not find the net in regulation and added time and the title had to be decided by penalty shoot-out.

5-4 kit ended in the favour of FC IfeanyiUbah who will represent Nigeria in the 2017  CAF Confederation Cup.
