Colombia set the fireworks four years ago in Brazil, romping through the group stage with a 100 per cent record after some sparkling performances from James Rodriguez.

A 2-0 defeat of Uruguay in the last 16 -- which included a stunning volley from James -- was followed by a now infamous quarter-final battle with Brazil, where Jose Pekerman's team were bullied out of the competition in a 2-1 loss.

After a less convincing qualifying campaign, recent friendly games have seen signs that the Jose Pekerman side are capable of repeating the feat of 2014.

Key Men

1. Radamel Falcao

After missing the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with a cruciate ligament, Colombia will be glad to have Falcao back.

Even better for the 2014 quarter-finalists, Falcao has rediscovered his best form.

He scored 30 goals as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2017 and was also impressive last season.

2. James Rodriguez

Colombia’s star man four years ago in Brazil, Rodriguez is in good form ahead of Russia 2018.

After failing to nail down a regular place at Real Madrid, the midfielder joined Bayern Munich where he has rediscovered his form.

It was four years ago in Brazil he announced himself to the world, in Russia, he has a chance of sealing his place among midfield elites.
