Chapecoense Real Injured, suspended players mourn dead teammates

A heartbreaking photo of three Chapecoense Real players who did not make the ill-fated journey to Colombia has emerged.

76 people including players, coaches and backroom staff of the Brazilian club died when the plane they were travelling with crashed in Medellin.

Chapecoense Real team was travelling to face Athletico Nacional in the first leg of the Copa Sudamerica final, the biggest game in the club’s history.

Just six people survived out of the 81 on board the plane when it crashed including three players.

One of the players Alejandro Martinuccio missed the trip because of an injury he was nursing.

The 28-year-old for Villarreal player said he is praying for his teammates who were on the plane.

I was saved because I got injured. I feel profound sadness. The only thing I can ask is prayers for the companions who were on the flight,” he told Argentina's La Red radio.

There are other eight players who did not travel with the team- Neném, Demerson, Marcelo Boeck, Andrei, Hyoran, Nivaldo, Moisés and Rafael Lima.

Matheus Saroli who is the son of Chapecoense's coach Caio Junior, who died in the crash missed the flight because he forgot his passport.

Brazil's president, Michel Temer, has declared three days of national mourning following the crash.
