Nothing is working in Barcelona these days, not even their social media team whose Twitter account announced the signing of Paris Saint-Germain star Angel Di Maria.

In the early hours of Wednesday, August 23, Barcelona threw their fans into a frenzy with the announcement of Di Maria's signing on their Twitter account.

Welcome Angel Di Maria to FC Barcelona! #DiMariaFCB,” Barcelona’s Twitter handle announced but it turned out that it was fake news as it was hacked.

That particular tweet disappeared and reappeared on Barcelona’s timeline several times as they try to take control of the handle.

Another tweet by OurMine was eventually posted claiming responsibility for the hoax and offering an apology.

OurMine is a security hacking group that have claimed a number of hacks on the Twitter accounts of Netflix, Marvel, WWE, HBO and PlayStation.

Barcelona confirmed the hack when they got control of their Twitter account.

Our accounts have been hacked tonight. We're working to solve the problem as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience,” the club announced.

This hoax comes following the failed pursuits of Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho and Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembélé.

Di Maria has been mentioned as one of the players Barcelona are looking at should they fail to get their priority targets.

Barcelona are looking to replace Neymar who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a world record £198m deal.
