The last games for Group A came to an end with two dramatic result from Bata where Equatorial Guinea shut Gabon out of the tournament with a 2-0 win in front of an ecstatic home ground.

Having drawn their first and second games with Congo and Burkina Faso, the Guineans reach the last 8 for the first time on two occasions where they hosted.

Striker, Javier Angel Balboa scored for Eq. Guinea in 53 minutes from the penalty spot.

An Ivan Edu Salvador second sealed it for the hosts; a shocking exit it is for Gabon who failed to capitalise on a first day 2-0 win over Burkina Faso.

Congo gave away a late goal to the 2015 AFCON hosts to draw the first game of the tournament, the Red Devils would later charge up against Gabon in the second game with an emphatic 1-0 win over Gabon.

Thievy Bifouma again was the showman for the Congolese who last qualified to the quarter finals in over 30 years at the tick of 51 minutes.

With the game still under tense for who wins a place in the last 8, Aristide Bancé levelled for 2013 losing finalist, Burkina Faso at the 85 minute but gave away the chance 3 minutes later when Fabrice Ondama sealed the fate for Claude Le Roy’s Congo.
